Venus Fly Trap Care Instructions

Each trap has 3 tiny trigger hairs (just visible) on the inside of the trap. When two of these are touched, the trap snaps shut – hopefully catching what triggered it (if it doesn’t catch anything it opens again).
The trap then gets tighter and tighter and digestive enzymes are released.
The trap becomes a stomach that digests the insect and absorbs the nutrients.
After a week or so, the trap reopens and all that is left is the skeleton.

Keep your plants on a sunny windowsill in a cool room.
They need to be kept moist at all times and most important, only watered with rainwater.
Allow about 1cm or so to stand in the saucer at all times which also keeps a humid atmosphere which they love (misting is good too).
The plants may go dormant in winter, make sure they are kept just moist and new leaves should emerge in spring.

NB it is not necessary to force feed with flies, they are best left to catch their own!
And making them open and close unnecessarily exhausts them!
